On September 2, 2025, Ekklesia Oromia, a well-established non-governmental organization (NGO) committed to promoting the rights and welfare of individuals with disabilities, formalized a bilateral agreement with Agape Mobility Ethiopia, a leading provider of mobility aids. This partnership is designed to support individuals living with disabilities, particularly those who face challenges with mobility.
As part of this initiative, Ekklesia Oromia identified ten children from various project sites across the region. After a thorough assessment of their needs and the availability of suitable equipment, two children were selected to receive customized wheelchairs, each valued at 42,000 ETB (approximately $280 USD). The selection was based on precise measurements to ensure a proper fit, enabling the children to gain greater independence and mobility.
These two orphans exemplify the extraordinary resilience that can emerge in the face of profound life challenges, showcasing the remarkable strength of the human spirit. Their names are Milkiyas Lemi Jirata and Meti Debali Korsa, both of whom have been supported by Ekklesia Oromia through various sponsorship programs.
Milkiyas Lemi Jirata, age 16, lives in the West Wellega Zone of Ethiopia, specifically in Bodji Dirmaji Wereda, within the Amuma Agello Kebele. He faces daily challenges due to his disability and is currently under the care of his grandfather, who is over 75 years old and suffers from severe vision impairment, making it difficult to provide adequate support. Despite these hardships, Milkiyas is determined to attend school with the help of his new wheelchair. He is eager to pursue his education and interact with peers, although he still faces obstacles such as limited accessibility and the need for additional learning support. His story reflects the resilience of youth and the transformative power of education.
Meti Debali Korsa, also 16, resides in the same zone and wereda, within the Bikiltu Dilla Kebele. She lives with her parents in a modest home and faces significant economic challenges. Despite the hardships of poverty, Meti and her family remain hopeful and determined to improve their circumstances. Her newly received wheelchair has brought renewed joy and mobility, empowering her to engage more fully in daily life and pursue her aspirations.
